This last weekend we drove down the coast to Monterey to meet up with Girl Scout troop 1046. The purpose of our trip, a sleep over at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. First of all, I thought of this trip as a – one of those things you do for your kids because that’s what parents are suppose to do kind of trip. After all, sleeping at the aquarium on the same floor that people have walked through all day was not in the least bit appealing. I would soon have a change of additude.
After arriving we stored all our gear as we were released to wander about the aquarium. This was the cherry on top of the sundae. We were able to get up close and personal with many of the exhibits that are normally packed with people during regular hours and spend much more time observing. Some exhibits, such as the penquins close down at night but there was not a lack of things for the girls to do. Feeding the Bat Rays, touch pools, the Jellies and Seahorses were such a pleasure to view.
After a short orientation, the Aquarium provided a snack of cookies, milk, bananas and apples. We then were given more time to roam until we were assigned our sleeping areas. To our delight we were assigned to the Jellyfish area, with a view of the big Shark tank! Aside from not much sleep, it was a great experience that we as a family will not forget. I will never again view a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium the same since we spent the night with the fish!
